FASHION FOR GOOD- AIME PARTNERS WITH THREAD TOGETHER TO UPCYCLE 5000 GARMENTS IN ONE WEEKEND

ReclAIMEd by AIME is an initiative offering a solution to re-imagine and re-solve waste in the fashion industry, while at the same time, raising funds to lift kids out of inequality. The program was launched with the Australian Fashion Council (AFC) in 2022 and in collaboration with some of Australia’s most well known brands, which include Maurie & Eve, Nagnata and M.J. Bale, ensures an actionable and ongoing  solution where it’s most wanted and needed.

The ReclAIMED initiative appeals to the fashion and ethics of younger audiences across the globe who are concerned about and invested in climate solutions.

AIME’s CEO and founder, Jack Manning Bancroft has said that the problem with fashion, and particularly fast-fashion, is having people wear something for a moment, and have no identity or connection to it and then throw it out. “The problem is that within a generation, no one owns something for more than 20 or 30 years, so we're here to explore how we can try and reclaim that dead stock, and utilise the cloth that's already been created and work with it and see how we can regenerate it.”

Thread Together diverts over 100,000 new garments per month from landfill to people in need. As a world first, Thread Together and AIME will upcycle 5000 garments in one weekend as part of the ReclAIMEd Global Festival on the 11th & 12th of February 2023. A weekend of upcycling, solutions labs, keynote speeches, education and imagination, hosted in Sydney, New York and Uganda.

Also launching this week is the capsule collection of one-off upcycled hoodies, created in collaboration with nANA jUDY. The funds from each sale will go to support Indigenous kids visiting AIME’s IMAGI-NATION{Factory} for mentorship and education workshops.  “We are pleased to partner with AIME in coming together creatively for a better future, the one-off upcycled hoodies are great statement pieces ”

Glenn Coleman, founder of nANA jUDY.

Celeste Tesoriero, Sustainability Director of Sonzai Studios and ReclAIMEd project lead, believes that " The ReclAIMEd program is  inspiring systemic change. Showing the industry that there are new, fun and exciting ways to easily get circularity into their business models. "

AIME is a connection space for imagination that is built on 18 years of activating intelligence from outside of the margins through mentoring. It implements 60 000 years of Indigenous knowledge to connect people in unlikely ways towards building a fairer world.
